Decision
The decision is the judge's final determination in a case. The court's decision is also referred to as the “opinion.” For example, a U.S. Supreme Court decision may state: “Justice Scalia delivered the opinion of the court…” On the other hand, a reference guide might be titled: “Famous Supreme Court Decisions.” Case law (i.e., common law) is referred to as “decisional law” because it is based on court decisions.
