Advocacy is arguing or pleading in favor of someone or some cause. Attorneys advocate for their clients. “Advocacy Attorney” often describes an attorney who fights for the rights of a particular group, for example, a “Child Advocacy Attorney,” a “Mental Health Advocacy Attorney,” etc. “Trial Advocacy” refers to representing clients in legal proceedings, particularly during litigation and trial. Most law students receive trial advocacy instruction in law school. There are a number of organizations devoted to trial advocacy, including National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) and American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
