Accessory After the Fact

An accessory is an individual who assists in or encourages the commission of a crime. An “accessory after the fact” is a person who assists someone who has already committed a crime. For example, if Julie knowingly lets Frank store money from a bank robbery at her house or allows Frank to stay with her at her house, Julie is an accessory to the robbery. Julie would also be referred to as an “accessory after the fact.”
