Closing Argument

At the end of a trial, the attorneys for both sides (prosecution and defense in a criminal trial or plaintiff and defendant in a civil trial) have an opportunity to make a final statement to the judge or jury before deliberation begins. In this statement or closing argument the attorney requests the judge or jury to consider the evidence and to apply the law in his or her client's favor. A closing argument is also referred to as a “Final Argument.”
