Arguendo

Arguendo means “in arguing” in Latin; in English it is similar to asking another party to assume something for the sake of argument; not necessarily because it is the established truth. So, an attorney might say, “assuming arguendo that the prosecution's allegations are true, the defendant could not have committed the crime because he was at home with his family the night of the murder.”
