Applicable

In legal actions, Applicable has the same meaning that is does in every day usage. It means being capable of being applied, or relevant, or appropriate or suitable. For example, if the criminal defense attorney thought that a case cited by the prosecution was not relevant and did not apply to the facts of the case at hand, he might say, “Your honor, the Smith v. Jones case is not applicable in the present prosecution, because…”
