Confidential Informant

A confidential informant (also referred to as a “CI” or “informant”) is a person who poses as a criminal, but works for the government. Informants often work secretly to provide information to law enforcement during criminal investigations. Confidential informants usually provide information (and testimony) to the government in exchange for leniency in punishment for their own crimes.
