The Monrovia Jail is located 23.5 miles east of downtown Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley. The Monrovia Police Department Jail ("Jail") processes, attends and temporarily houses male and female arrestees for the City of Monrovia. Although the Monrovia Police Department Jail has an Inmate Worker Program for individuals convicted of misdemeanor crimes, these individuals who are also known as trustees do not stay at the Monrovia Police Department Jail overnight.

Visiting Hours

You may visit an inmate at the Monrovia Police Department Jail, Monday through Sunday, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Visitors should note that the Monrovia Police Department Jail's visiting hours and roster of inmates who are eligible for visits vary and are subject to change without notice. Also, if jailors are processing a new arrestee, regular visiting hours may very well be suspended. You should always call the Monrovia Police Department Jail before attempting to visit an inmate at the Jail. The Monrovia Police Department Jail permits attorneys, clergymen and bail bondsmen to visit an arrestee/inmate at any time for as long as they like.

Visiting Procedures

Typically, inmates at the Monrovia Police Department Jail are allowed one 15 minute visit per day. However, a visitation may be extended upon request depending upon the activity occurring at the Jail during the visitation. Although only one adult may visit an inmate at one given time, children are not counted as visitors.

Visitor Restrictions

Only visitors with a valid ID will be allowed to visit inmates at the Monrovia Police Department Jail. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • California Identification Card
  • Driver's License (any state)
  • U.S. Military Identification
  • Passport/Visa
  • Mexican Consulate Card
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Valid School Identification Card or Birth Certificate (if visitor is a minor).

Officers at the Jail may deny visitation rights to anyone for any number of reasons.

Persons on Parole or on probation are not permitted to visit inmates at the Monrovia Police Department Jail. Persons with outstanding warrants visiting an inmate at the Jail will be arrested. All visitors at the Monrovia Police Department Jail are subject to being searched.

Telephone Access & Mail

During booking, the person being held in the Monrovia Police Department Jail ("the arrestee") may initially make three free telephone calls unless the arrestee is a parent. An arrestee parent will be given one additional call to arrange for the care of a child or children. Arrestees/Inmates may not receive calls or phoned-in messages, but once housed, inmates may make unlimited local calls for free. Long distant calls are permitted but they must be collect calls.

Inmates in the Monrovia Police Department Jail will be housed for no more than 48 hours, excluding holidays and weekends. Thus, you should avoid sending mail to an inmate at the Monrovia Police Department Jail.

Personal Property

Any time after arrest, an arrestee/inmate may authorize the release of his personal property to anyone unless that property has been entered into evidence. If the property has been entered into evidence, it will not be available until the criminal case is completed. The person picking up the inmate's personal property must present a valid California ID or an ID from an acceptable source.

To determine whether an arrestee's vehicle has been impounded, contact the Monrovia Police Department's records office at 626-256-8000. If you need to obtain a car key that was in an inmate's possession at the time of arrest, contact the Jail at 626-256-8097 or 626-256-8000 to obtain a property release form signed by the inmate releasing the key to you.
