With Thanksgiving nearly here, many of us are preparing for family get-togethers,
meetings with old friends, and a long weekend. Law enforcement officers,
on the other hand, are preparing to crack down on motorists who drive
under the influence this holiday weekend.
According to statistics,
holidays and weekends see higher rates of alcohol-related accidents than
any other time of year – and these accidents cause thousands of preventable injuries and
deaths. In an effort to crack down on drunk and drugged driving this Thanksgiving
weekend, law enforcement agencies across Los Angeles and surrounding communities
have announced the following:
- Sobriety checkpoints will be conducted throughout the county at various
locations.
-
More officers will be on patrol in locations and at times with higher rates
of impaired driving incidents. These increased patrols are known as
saturation patrols. One patrol announced will take place from Saturday at 4:00 pm to midnight
in the LAPD's Central Bureau area.
- Checkpoints will take place throughout the weekend, including a checkpoint
from Friday evening to Saturday morning in Pacoima.
Authorities throughout the area routinely conduct these periods of increased
DUI enforcement throughout the year, especially during holidays. Although
their intentions are to keep the public safe, they often commit crucial
errors and may inadvertently violate rights in their zealousness to increase
DUI arrests. Officers will also be checking motorists for driver's
licenses and warrants.
Stephen G. Rodriguez & Partners has decades of experience protecting
the rights of clients charged with driving under the influence of alcohol
and drugs – and we have represented many drivers who were arrested for
DUI during periods of increased enforcement. We hope that everyone has a safe
Thanksgiving holiday and will be available to provide immediate and aggressive
assistance to anyone who is charged for DUI.
