Pitchess Detention Center - East Facility Call 213- 473-6100
The Los Angeles Pitchess Detention Center, East Facility, ("the Facility"),
which opened in 1951 as a disciplinary unit, is the oldest operating jail
in Los Angeles County. The Facility, designed to house over 850 inmates,
is operated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Pitchess Detention Center – East Facility is located at 29310 The
Old Road, Castaic, California, 91384. Visitors must park in Dr. Elmer
T. Jafee Visiting Center's parking lot and take a shuttle bus to the
facility. They are also required to fill out a “request for visit”
that contains their name, the inmate’s name, and the inmates booking number.
Telephone Access & Mail
Arrestees are allowed three free telephone calls during booking. They are
not permitted to receive calls or phoned-in messages, but once housed,
they may make unlimited collect calls.

Visitors should plan on spending at least four hours at the Pitchess Detention
Center – East Facility. Visits are available on a first come, first
serve basis, so you should plan to arrive at the facility at least one
hour in advance of your desired visiting time. Many people opt to camp
out near the facility the night before they plan to visit.
On the day you visit an inmate at the Los Angeles Pitchess Detention Center,
("PDC"), East Facility, you may be one of 6,000 visitors to
the Los Angeles Pitchess Detention Center, which comprises the East Facility,
the North Facility, the South Facility and the North County Correctional Facility.
Visiting hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Saturdays and Sundays.
On holidays, a visitor may visit an inmate for an additional half-hour.
Visitations are permitted on the following holidays regardless of the
day of the week: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor
Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas
Because the East Facility of the Los Angeles Pitchess Detention Center's
visiting hours and roster of inmates eligible for visits vary and are
subject to change without notice, always call the Facility before visiting.

Attorneys may visit inmates from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday through
Friday. Contact the Watch Commander at (661) 295-8815 if you are an attorney,
bail bondsman, or clergy member who must arrange a visit.
Inmates at Pitchess Detention Center – East Facility may have one
hour of visitation per week, which must be split up into two 30-minute
visits. An inmate may only receive three visitors at a time. Minors must
be accompanied by a parent or guardian unless the inmate has made a special
request to see the minor without adult accompaniment (the minor must be
at least 12 or older). Infants and toddlers may not count as one of the
three permitted visitors.
Those who wish to visit with an inmate must show valid identification.
Ex-felons, persons formerly incarcerated in state prison, and those on
probation must first obtain permission for the visit by calling Watch
Commander at (661) 295-8815. Visitors with outstanding warrants or parking/traffic
tickets should not visit the Facility, as the may be arrested on site.
