Brown occurs when law enforcement targets certain individuals who “look Mexican” for arrests, detentions, traffic stops, interrogations and searches that are not based on any evidence of criminal activity, but rather on race, ethnicity, or nationality. Recently, driving while Mexican has also come to describe the practice of police or immigration officers who illegally pull over individuals who “look Mexican” in order to determine if they are legally in the United States.
