Criminal Disenfranchisement

Criminal disenfranchisement results from state law that prohibits people who have been convicted of a felony from voting. It is also referred to as “Felony Disenfranchisement.” Every state except for Maine and Vermont have criminal disenfranchisement laws that prohibit individuals from voting while they are in prison, on probation or on parole.
