Crime of Violence

A crime of violence is broadly defined as an offense that includes an element of force: the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force, or a substantial risk of the use of physical force against another person or his/her property (see, 18 USC Section 16a). Assault with a deadly weapon, vehicular manslaughter and burglary are crimes of violence. A crime of violence is also referred to as a “violent crime.”
