Condition of Bail

A condition of bail is a restriction placed by the judge on a person who has been released on bail. For example, a person who has been convicted of domestic violence may be released on bail, on the condition that he has no contact with his wife. Bail is money or some other type of security (real estate) that is accepted by the court in exchange for the release of a defendant who must appear in court at a future time. If the person violates a condition of bail, bail can be revoked and the person can be put in jail. See also, Bail Bond, Bail Bondsman, Bail Schedule.
