Bigamy

Bigamy is the act of marrying one person while legally married to another. Bigamy is a criminal offense in most states, including California. Bigamy in California is prosecuted under Penal Code sections 281 to 283. Bigamy can be charged as either a misdemeanor or a felony punishable by up to one year in county jail or three years in state prison.

If you or someone you know is being investigated for or charged with bigamy, you should consult with an experienced and knowledgeable criminal defense attorney to learn about the criminal justice system, the defenses to a bigamy charge, and your legal options.
