Bench Trial

A bench trial is a trial before a judge without a jury. In most jurisdictions, a criminal defendant has a right to waive a trial by jury, which is guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment. In a bench trial, the judge hears evidence and makes determinations regarding both the law and the facts of the case.
