Attorney

Attorney is another term for lawyer or counselor. In a criminal matter, the attorney representing the State is referred to as the Prosecutor. Because all defendants have a right to representation by an attorney in a criminal case, defendants who can not afford a private criminal defense attorney are represented by a “Public Defender.”
