Age of Consent

The age of consent refers to the age at which a person can legally marry. It is also the point at which a child can consent to engage in sexual intercourse without the act being considered statutory rape. The age of consent regard to sexual relations in California is 18 (CA Penal Code 261.5). Children of any age can marry in California with the consent of both parents (exceptions apply), but must be 18 to marry without the consent of their parents.
